More than 1,800 members now belong to The Missouri Forestkeepers Network. The program is free and open to any interested individual, family or group. Members receive a starter kit, quarterly newsletter, and information about additional training opportunities. Like the nationally-recognized Missouri Stream Team program, Forestkeepers is a volunteer-driven effort. In 2006, network members and those who participated in activities with them, volunteered a total of 22,438 hours.
Currently, two-thirds of the participants in the network are from rural areas of Missouri and one-third live in the larger, urban areas. They include educators, various groups such as scout troops and neighborhood associations, and even some forestry and horticulture professionals. Members are active in all but five counties in the state. In 1998, The Missouri Forestkeepers Network was awarded one of three Education Awards from the National Arbor Day Foundation. 2007 Annual Forestkeepers Report For more information, contact:
